The problem with crowd funding a MMO is it takes so long and is such a huge investment that a Kickstarter alone won't be enough and some I think hope that they will get investment opportunity's like Zenith did with Playstation. Most, don't know how to go about it though and instead complain that people aren't coming to them when that does happen.Įdit: The only MMO I backed was Fractured and that may have been a mistake as it seems that they may have been bought by Gamingo of all people. So investment did come but by a shit company Camelot unchained open beta how to# Problem is no one else, besides kickstarter projects, is willing to invest on the type of MMOs that I like. Hence, crowdfunding is my only hope for the foreseeable future. I didn't like social media platforms, so I created one that I'd personally like. Maybe I have to create an MMO, too.Īt this rate come back in 2026 and it might be in beta. I have take no issue with them taking forever, it's their game and their company, and backers knew (or should have known) the risks.īut them labelling it as beta sounds to me as an intentional attempt to obfuscate the state of their development, and them not respecting their own refund policy (there are reports of people not having received their refund after 2 years since their request) is disgusting.īack in 2013 crowd funding was new and while a few single player games had delivered MMORPGs were a big unknown. Some folks like myself seriously doubted such complicated games could be made on shoestring budgets, but Mark promised he could pull it off. When challenged on his two year timeline to deliver, he explained he already had a working version of his vaunted new engine, and he was not building a full MMORPG like DAOC, just the RVR portion so a much smaller effort. Still sounded a bit like BS, but I kicked in knowing two years was a long shot, but certainly in four or five years it was possible. Never did I forsee eight years down the road they literally on would still be delivering concept art and defining what stats they may or may not include.
